ON THE BUS seeks to solve an age-old problem: how should one spend those 12-to-25 uncomfortable and mercilessly boring minutes, pinned in between fellow bus riders, during the morning commute? The lack of personal space during peak hours makes reading a book or magazine impossible. The iPod, that workhorse of commute entertainment, is a viable option -- but it doesn't allow for the edifying, brain-building act of starting the day with a book or newspaper. Which is where ON THE BUS enters the equation. ON THE BUS provides the best writing the web has to offer in a format that's easily viewed on any mobile device. So even if you can barely move your arms -- you can read.
What kind of content is available at ON THE BUS you ask? Just about anything. From non-fiction to poetry to essays and unpublished fiction -- all of it is welcome at ON THE BUS. There's only one minor constraint: each submission needs to be short enough to be consumed during the average 30-minute commute that most of us endure on a daily basis. Which means that longer works appear in a serialized form -- roughly 3,000 words at a time.
Of course, like anything worth visiting on the Internet, it's free and open to all. If you have literary leanings, and would like to see some of your work published at ON THE BUS, create a username and submit a .txt file at www.onthebus.com.
